Preliminary election results showed Democrat Dan Arthrell winning by three votes. A recount held Wednesday had Republican Katie Henke winning by one vote, but left a four vote discrepancy between the machine vote count and the manual vote count. Two ballots were later found unsecured inside voting machines, both for Arthrell, which would make him the winner. The vote will likely face a court challenge before the State Election Board certification on April 16th.
