Senate Efforts to Repeal ACA Fail

Overnight, the Senate voted down a version of the health care bill known as the "skinny repeal," the Health Care Freedom Act, that was thought to be one of the most viable options to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Senator John McCain cast the deciding vote after expressing concerns the bill would be immediately passed by the House without a bicameral conference committee.

Earlier this week, the U.S. Senate voted down multiple versions of bills designed to repeal the ACA, including a "repeal and delay" bill and the "repeal and replace" bill called the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA). Read more about the process this week.
