Special elections for several vacant State House and Senate seats scheduled for February 14th will be held under the new districts based on the 2010 U.S. Census and established by the Oklahoma State Legislature in 2011. Special primary elections are scheduled for House District 71 and Senate Districts 46 and 20. The special general elections for these races are scheduled for April 3rd.
Senate District 46 is being vacated by Sen. Andrew Rice who is moving with his family to Tennessee where his wife has accepted a new position. Senate District 20 was left vacant with the November 11th passing of Sen. David Myers. House District 71 will be vacated by Rep. Dan Sullivan who will be taking a position with the Grand River Dam Authority.
The special general election for House District 1 will also be held on February 14th. House District 1 was left vacant when Rep. Rusty Farley passed away in July.
The primary election for House District 1 was held on November 8th with Curtis McDaniel winning the Democratic Primary and Joe Silk winning the Republican Primary. The two candidates will face two Independent candidates - James Skipper and Bethany Farley, Rep. Farley’s daughter - in the February 14th special general election.
