Legislature Adjourns Session

The Oklahoma House and Senate adjourned sine die this week, bringing an official close to the 2018 regular session. The Governor signed the general appropriations bill that was sent to her by the Legislature last week.

This week, the Legislature approved HB2987, which would allow the Physician Manpower Training Commission to offer loan repayment for physician assistants practicing in rural or underserved areas in Oklahoma.

The Legislature also sent HB2932 to the Governor. The bill directs the Oklahoma Health Care Authority to seek a waiver to institute work requirements for adult Medicaid recipients. The bill follows Governor Fallin's executive order on the subject earlier this session. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has approved similar waivers in other states this year, but CMS has so far not approved waivers in states that did not expand Medicaid to adults up to 100% of the federal poverty level. CMS Administrator Seema Verma indicated for the first time this week that she and the administration were concerned with the effects of such requirements in non-expansion states.
